Boundary

The master bath in this Oakwood residence in downtown Raleigh was dimly lit with an unusual configuration lacking in functionality. A walled-in, beige fiberglass shower with popcorn ceiling and textured out-of-square walls were just a few of the project challenges. The resulting transformation into a modern master bathroom has garnered recognition nationally with a 2019 Master Design Award, and a 2021 Chrysalis Award as one the nation’s top bathroom remodeling projects.

By removing the shower enclosure, we opened the space to create a striking walk-in shower with floor-to-ceiling tile and centerpiece tub. It features a rainfall showerhead, recessed niche and waterproof vinyl window with custom quartz ledge. Continuous porcelain tile flooring features a linear drainage system and a zero rise entry for an open feel.

We added a double sink with quartz countertops and custom walnut vanity with dark wood tones to add warmth. New sheetrock created flawless lines for tiling, with hard geometric lines softened by rounded fixtures. Three-dimensional graphite black wall tile accents the angular vanity hardware with flat black finish. Oval sinks and the rounded tub also softened the room’s hard corners. Placement of flat black light fixtures and dual mirrors created clean lines for improved functionality. An award-winning transformation to more useful and inviting space.
